Samhain
Samhain has been celebrated in Ireland for thousands of years. One of the most important festivals of the ancient calendar, it is the Celtic new year, the entering into the darker and colder months. It is a celebration of the great change, when nature begins to turn in for the cold winter months.
Since 2017, Geata Arts have organised and facilitated a Samhain festival in Clonakilty, Co. Cork, which culminates in a large street theatre spectacle that draws thousands to the town every year.
The festival includes concerts, poetry readings, plays, talks, film screenings and the famous Púca Parade, all based around the cultural importance of the ancient festival of Samhain.
